There's probably a handful of equally terrible paranormal flicks out there (The White Noise comes to mind). But this one has Cillian Murphy in it (for those of you not in the know, he's the one responsible for all that godawful Batman/Scarecrow fanfiction you find online). And if you're anything like me, you wouldn't mind watching his angelic face even if all he starred in was hardcore gay porn. And since he spends most of the picture with that delightfully ecstatic look on his face, there's really not that much difference.
I would lie if I said the premise wasn't at all interesting, and there is a lot of good acting here from Murphy, as well as his co-stars, Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver. The writing, however, is atrocious, and the final twist is a predictable let-down. The movie feels patchy, with a rather weird pacing, and Elisabeth Olsen's character is extremely bad in terms of writing, both as an inevitable love interest (is there any genre that has no love interests?) and as a "smart female character".
All in all, this movie isn't worth watching, unless you're a Cillian Murphy fan, in which case it becomes a treat.
